EDRI - Electronic Disease Reporting Infrastructure

The NYC DOHMH EDRI system will be designed to streamline the process of collecting communicable disease data from multiple systems in various formats. This will help in disease classification, data standardization, cleaning, and preparing data for submission to various registries according to their format and standards.

EDRI

Feature Highlights with Descriptions

EDRI will facilitate New York City with a deeper understanding of disease trends, improved surveillance capabilities, and informed decision-making within the public health domain.

Schema Standardization and Transformation

Disparate data sources are transformed into the EDRI Common Reporting Interface Schema (CRIS).

Disease / Program Classification

Data is examined using various mappings, codes (Disease code, LOINC code, Test type) and keywords to assign disease and programs.

Enrichment / Matching of Data

Utilization matching, merging and business rules from entities such as Person, Provider and Facility to assign specific EDRI IDs.

Data Standardization and cleaning

Translate source data into agency/program specific standard codes. For example LOINC codes, SNOMED CT codes, Specimen source, Race, etc.

Transform and Publish Data to Registry

Translate source data into agency/program specific standard codes. For example LOINC codes, SNOMED CT codes, Specimen source, Race, etc.

Acknowledgment from Registry Systems

Tracking acknowledgments by registry systems for the receipt of EDRI data.

EDRI

The Division of Disease Control (DDC) within the Department of Health, will be relying on the EDRI system to collect disease data electronically from diverse channels and sources such as healthcare facilities, laboratories, electronic health records (EHRs), and public health agencies. Through automated and manual processes, system will standardize, clean, and transform data with the objective of enhancing the timeliness, accuracy, and efficiency of disease reporting and surveillance procedures, thereby reporting data to different registries.

The DDC plans to upgrade the existing EDRI system, focusing on enhancing data standardization and cleansing techniques to tackle challenges revealed during past outbreaks like COVID-19 etc. This initiative aims to ensure the system's adaptability to future surveillance requirements by leveraging the latest technologies to create a more efficient approach. It enables disease experts to enhance data collection, conduct thorough analysis, and improve data reporting, empowering health authorities to proactively address public health issues and safeguard community well-being.
